Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining.There is hypo- and hyper-acid gastritis (i.e., high or low acidity).
As is known, the stomach produces hydrochloric acid, the content of which determines the type of gastritis.Diet plays an important role in the treatment of gastritis.
Basic diet rules
The main goal of the gastritis diet is to adhere to a diet that ensures normal digestion.
The gastritis treatment table (daily) should include:
- 90-100 gr.proteins (60% animal),
- 90-100 gr.fat (75% animal)
- 400-420 gr.carbohydrates.
The total energy value should be 2800-3000 kcal.
Nutritional rules for gastritis
power mode
First, you must follow an eating schedule (at the same time).Secondly, with gastritis, meals should be fractional, 4-5 times a day, but at the same time it is necessary to avoid snacks (they cause "excessive" secretion of gastric juice and reduce its production during breakfast / lunch / dinner, which disrupts the processes of processing and assimilation of food).
Reading while eating, watching television and “eating while running” should be strictly excluded.
knowing the measure
In gastritis, the saying "there should be a slight feeling of hunger after eating" is more meaningful than ever.
Firstly, the feeling of satiety occurs only 10-15 minutes after eating, and secondly, a full stomach does not cope well with its functions, especially with gastritis.
chew food
Chewing food for a long time (at least 25-30 seconds for each piece) contributes to more thorough mechanical processing of food, which eases stomach pain.Also in this case, hunger is satisfied faster (which prevents overeating).
Refusal of complex meals
The menu for gastritis should consist of simple but varied dishes.The large number of ingredients in meals makes it difficult for the stomach to digest them.
Rest after meal
After each meal, you need to rest for 15-20 minutes (not necessarily sleep).You can read a book or listen to music.
Forbidden foods for gastritis
With increasing acidity

The diet for gastritis, in which the production of hydrochloric acid increases, should be aimed at reducing the formation of gastric juice.Therefore, the principles of the treatment table consist of 3 points:
- mechanical– avoid eating foods with large fibers (whole wheat bread, turnips, radishes, “old” meat);
- chemical– prohibition of foods that increase the production of gastric juice (alcohol, coffee, white cabbage, citrus fruits, sour fruits and berries, strong broths);
- thermal– do not eat too cold or, on the contrary, hot food (optimal temperature 50 degrees).
Foods prohibited for hyperacid gastritis:
- fresh, especially warm bread, butter pastries and puff pastry;
- cereals: pearl barley, legumes, millet, barley, corn (coarse fiber);
- rich meat and fish broths, okroshka, borscht, mushroom soups (contain many extractive substances that stimulate the production of gastric juice);
- fatty and fibrous varieties of any meat: duck, chicken, pork, smoked meats (they are difficult to digest in the stomach and increase the formation of hydrochloric acid);
- fatty and salty fish (causes the formation of gastric juice);
- fermented milk products (all kinds of sharp cheese, limited to sour cream);
- vegetables: rutabaga, radish, radish, sorrel, spinach, canned vegetables (coarse fiber), as well as onions and garlic, especially raw (stimulates the gastric glands in the mucous membrane);
- sweets: sour berries and fruits, unripe berries, chocolate, dried fruits (coarse fiber, increased acidity);
- spices: mustard, pepper, horseradish (promotes the production of hydrochloric acid);
- carbonated drinks, kvass, coffee (stimulates the release of hydrochloric acid, increases gas formation, causes heartburn);
- fried and boiled eggs, animal fats (except butter).
Low acid gastritis
The goal of the low-acid gastritis diet is to stimulate (in moderation) the production of gastric juice.Food should be taken after the secretion of hydrochloric acid begins, that is, in the first stage (advertisements or programs about food, photos of beautiful food, “delicious” conversations can cause the release of gastric juice).
Foods prohibited for hypoacid gastritis:
- fresh bread, rich pastries (“heavy” food for the stomach, complicating chemical and mechanical processing);
- restriction of pearl barley, legumes, millet;
- fatty meat, fascial meat (films), canned food, smoked meats (insufficient mechanical processing of food, excessive release of hydrochloric acid);
- oily and salty fish;
- vegetables and fruits with coarse fiber (white cabbage, turnip, radish, cucumber, bell pepper), mushrooms;
- berries (raspberries, strawberries, red currants, gooseberries, figs);
- sharp and salty cheeses, milk – neutralizes hydrochloric acid;
- pork, beef, lamb fat and oil (indigestible, difficult to digest foods due to low production of hydrochloric acid);
- spices and spices (irritate the gastric mucosa), as well as chocolate, grape juice, alcohol;
Authorized Products
With increasing acidity

Products and dishes that are allowed and recommended for gastritis with increased acid formation should neutralize the high content of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and facilitate digestion in the stomach (puree dishes, liquid cereals, boiled meat, fish and poultry).
Allowed products for hyperacid gastritis:
- “yesterday's” or dried bread, crackers, dry biscuits (biscuits);
- mashed vegetable puree (carrots, potatoes, beets, cauliflower), peeled tomatoes;
- fruits that do not contain coarse fiber (bananas, baked apples, ripe pears, sweet berries and preparing fruit drinks, compotes, jellies, jellies from them);
- sweet products: milk cream, marshmallows, marshmallows, honey (drinking water with honey 1.5-2 hours before meals reduces acidity in the stomach, has a healing and immunostimulating effect);
- butter (natural and ghee), vegetable oils (contain vitamin E, which neutralizes hydrochloric acid);
- lean varieties of meat and poultry (veal, beef without tendons and fascia, "white" chicken meat);
- milk, cream, low-fat cottage cheese (antacid - anti-heartburn effect, coats the gastric mucosa, neutralizes gastric juice);
- river fish (contains a large amount of unsaturated fats that normalize the functioning of the digestive system) cutlets or steamed, boiled;
- seafood;
- parsley and dill, vanillin and cinnamon in small quantities to increase appetite;
- soft boiled egg or steamed omelette (preferably white);
- cabbage, potato, carrot juices (or mixtures) – antacid effect, high vitamin U content – anti-ulcer factor;
- rosehip decoction (lots of vitamin C, which has a healing effect and increases appetite), weak tea or coffee with milk, cocoa, still mineral water (removal of toxins).
low acid
Products recommended for consumption for gastritis with low acidity should stimulate the production of hydrochloric acid.Eating should coincide with the beginning of the release of gastric juice.
Allowed products for hypoacid gastritis:
- dried bread, crackers, baked goods;
- porridge with water or diluted milk, well-cooked, liquid, as well as steamed dumplings and cutlets, puddings, souffle;
- veal, beef, skinless chicken;
- low-fat meat and fish broths, if well tolerated, you can add cereals, pasta, borscht, cabbage soup, borscht with finely chopped vegetables;
- potatoes, zucchini, zucchini, white (finely chopped) cabbage, cauliflower (boiled, steamed or mashed, pudding);
- juices from potatoes, cabbage, carrots immediately before meals (stimulates the release of hydrochloric acid);
- water with honey before meals (stimulates acid formation), compotes and mousses from watermelons, peeled grapes, baked apples, very ripe and sweet fruits and berries;
- tea with lemon, light coffee, diluted cocoa with milk, rosehip decoction;
- vegetable oils, butter;
- fermented milk products, grated and soft cheese in small slices;
- soft boiled egg or egg white omelette.
Need to follow diet
No medication can completely cure acute gastritis or provide stable remission in the presence of chronic gastritis.
All advertised drugs available to everyone are sold in pharmacies without a prescription.But they only (temporarily) eliminate unpleasant symptoms (heartburn, pain, belching).
Following a diet for gastritis both makes the patient's life easier and disciplines the person.
The treatment table for gastritis is a complete and healthy diet, normalization of lifestyle, rejection of bad habits and low-quality products.In addition, the gastritis diet helps normalize weight (those who lose weight gain weight, and people with excess body weight lose weight), because timely and nutritious nutrition normalizes not only the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, but also all metabolic processes and, as a result, strengthens the immune system.
Consequences of not following the diet

If you refuse to follow a diet for any type of gastritis, the patient may face the following problems:
- vitamin deficiency;
- diseases of the liver, pancreas, duodenum, large and small intestine (as a result of impaired stomach function);
- significant loss of body weight (fear of eating);
- peptic ulcer disease and its consequences: perforation of the ulcer, penetration of the ulcer - germination into the organ, bleeding;
- formation of atrophic gastritis and its transformation into stomach cancer.
